Summer of computer science in Bochum

Summer of computer science in Bochum

Offers for prospective IT students

Throughout the early summer until mid-July, we regularly open our virtual doors to prospective students and provide them with exciting insights into the study of computer science, interesting taster lectures by professors and the Student Advisory Service, and of course answers to everything they ever wanted to know about studying computer science at the RUB.

Curious already? To get the best out of the summer of computer science you may want to have a look at our booklet!

Open days

Computer science is all around us: Like hardly any other science, it permeates almost all areas of our lives, even and especially where no one sees it.

We want to inspire you for this future field and show you that modern computer science cannot be developed further without solid specialized knowledge. This knowledge can only be gained in a
scientific course of studies (such as our bachelor’s program in computer science) and enables you to quickly familiarize yourself with new problems and search for novel solutions. Computer science is the perfect career field for anyone with a mathematical and technical affinity who wants to use it to shape the future.

Come by (digitally), we have prepared an exciting program for you:

  • We start at 3 p.m. with a welcome from the Student Advisory Service and begin by discussing together why cars, airplanes or weather forecasting would not work today without computer science. Where is computer science hidden, where is it still needed, what are the challenges?
  • Afterwards, Anja Nuß will explain to you how mathematical algorithms are best used, using graph theory as an example, and show how computer science can solve many everyday problems.
  • Afterwards, experience an exciting journey of data packages around the world with Prof. Steffen Bondorf.
  • We will then introduce what you can expect in our bilingual study program and how it is structured.

Questions after questions? No problem! No question remains unanswered in the discussion round with our student advisors.

We are looking forward to seeing you ! Register now and join us on June 10 at 3 p.m. in our Zoom room (you’ll get the link after you register!).

More events

Choosing your field of study is an important decision that sets the course for your professional future.

So that you can make this decision well informed, the RUB offers the long evening of study counseling. Here, student advisors from various subjects will be on hand for an entire evening to answer all your questions about choosing your major.

Of course, our student advisors will also provide you with everything you need to know about our bilingual Bachelor of Computer Science.

Registration is not necessary.

Every year, the JungeUni of the RUB offers prospective students insights into the various disciplines of the university as part of the SummerCampus during the summer vacations. We will be there with an exciting workshop:

Have you ever looked at a photo and thought about whether it is real or fake? Texts, images – and even videos: There is hardly any medium that cannot be deceptively reproduced by artificial intelligence. In the workshop „Deepfakes – The dark side of artificial intelligence“ we will take a closer look at deepfakes, create our own deepfakes and learn which tools can be used to expose them.

Afterwards (12 p.m. to 1 p.m.), the student advisory service will answer all your questions about studying computer science at the RUB!
